Share prices

19/10/2013

A snapshot of global bike and ATV industry share performance at the trading week closure on Friday 18 October 2013.

TICKER TAPE

Proof of US investor disdain for the current Punch-and-Judy quality of American politics is steady and muscular share prices for solid prospects like leading powersports stocks Harley-Davidson, Polaris and Arctic Cat. From start to finish, the recent US budgetary lock-down and deficit ceiling crisis had not the slightest effect on them, despite doomsayers among equities analysts. One New York financial pundit actually joked that all those US federal employees enjoying an enforced holiday had more time to buy a bike.

In India, the two top local manufacturers Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj both saw their share prices creep up week-on-week, flying in the face of that country’s plummeting currency value. In Bajaj’s case this was due to improved quarterly financial results precisely because of the weakening rupee — it’s a big exporter. Hero isn’t yet but investors still trust its jam-tomorrow plans for a major export drive, bolstered this week by announcment of a distribution deal in the USA for 2014.
