Big-league used motorcycle retailer SuperBike Factory, which has showrooms in Macclesfield and Donington, has launched an apprenticeship scheme in partnership with Nottingham College’s EMTEC automotive unit.

This is aimed at solving an issue for the sector — lack of a structured training programme for aspiring motorcycle technicians, working across a wide range of brands.

“The UK motorcycle industry is historically fragmented with consumers consistently underserved due to a lack of well-trained, experienced technicians,” explained Superbike Factory chief executive Scott Behrens.

The initial batch of apprentices includes school leavers and mature students. On completion of the scheme, they will be eligible to join the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) professional register, which covers qualified time-served individuals in all aspects of the motor industry.
