Oxford Products is trying to encourage motorcyclists to replace substandard helmets that may be compromising their safety. The Witney-based distributor points out that helmets more than five years old (where the materials and resins break down, reducing protection), helmets that are damaged, ill-fitting or lack an E mark can be potentially dangerous.

Bikers are invited to register online at www.helmetamnesty.com and in return will receive a voucher for a free Oxford helmet care kit worth £19.99 or a lid sack worth £14.99. They can then surrender the voucher at any one of three motorcycle shows (see below).

Anyone looking for a replacement can then “wander the shows and pick up a brand new, expertly fitted and, most importantly, safe lid”.

As well as a huge range of clothing and accessories, Oxford distributes HJC and Box helmets.

According to research undertaken by motorcycle insurance company Carole Nash, 41% of British motorcyclists are riding in a helmet not fit for purpose. We’re on a mission to improve safety, making your biking life safer and more enjoyable. We’re giving away a choice of either a free Oxford Helmet Care Kit or Oxford Lidsack when you ditch your old helmet at one of the participating live events.

The voucher can be redeemd at the MCN London Show, 14-16 February; the Scottish Motorcycle Show 7-8 March, Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston; and or the MCN Festival of Motorcycling, 16/17 May.
