BMW Motorrad has passed more all-time record performance landmarks in its nine-monthly results to 30 September. BDN financial editor Roger Willis reports.
Global retail motorcycle and maxiscooter sales for the brand were 10.1% up to 127,818 units, led by a 14.4% rise in European sales to 82,601. The only significant downside was 6.8% drop to 10,200 in the troubled US market. Production during the period climbed by 26.9% to 146,995 bikes, boosted by output from Indian manufacturing partner TVS.
Revenue from the sector increased by 11.1% to £1.61bn. Associated operating profit was 25.9% up at £248m and operating margin improved from 13.6% to 15.4%. Pre-tax profit grew by 26% to £247.2m.
Within that, latest third-quarter figures were even stronger. Unit sales put on 11.7% to 39,429 and production 31.7% to 41,443. Revenue improved by 14% to Ł452.1m. Both operating and pre-tax profit were 65.6% up at £46.6m.
