Suzuki Motor Corporation subsidiary Suzuki Philippines Incorporated has completed construction of a new factory, which will increase its annual motorcycle production capacity to about 200,000 units. Located at Carmelray Industrial Park in Canlubang Calamba, 30 miles south of the Philippino capital Manila, this plant will significantly raise the local parts procurement rate by manufacturing major bike components such as frames, tanks and exhaust systems. Previously, Suzuki had been assembling motorcycles in the Philippines from knocked-down kits sourced from its other manufacturing hubs in SE Asia. Suzuki more than doubled its Philippino bike sales to 97,000 units in 2011 and the new facility, which required a £13m investment and took 16 months to build, is designed to sustain that pace of growth. It was officially opened by Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman and chief executive Osamu Suzuki in mid-November.
