On Friday 27 September, BDN ran an erroneous report online stating that an “official Isle of Man TT travel partner” had gone bust. It referred to the Manx franchisee of Freedom Travel Group, part of the collapsed Thomas Cook empire.

Our news item relied on an apparently impeccable source, a press release issued on the official TT website by TT press officer Simon Crellin on 16 May 2018.

This stated: “The Isle of Man Government’s Department for Enterprise has granted official partner status to three local companies to offer travel and accommodation services to visitors to the Isle of Man for the TT Races and Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling in 2019.”

The release went on to say Freedom Travel Isle of Man was among these companies, which “were successful in their applications for licences to provide official travel and accommodation services for the TT Races and Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling.”

It has since transpired that Freedom Travel Isle of Man’s appointment was not confirmed subsequent to the above announcement and it never became an “official TT travel partner” — although no clarification was, to BDN’s knowledge, ever published by the Isle of Man Government at that time or later.

We are, of course, happy to set this matter straight and apologise for any confusion.
