Doing the continental

Direct Distribution is turning the tables on Europe by moving in on continental dealers.

The Shipley-based trade-only supplier has set up a courier network that can deliver “to most of Europe for very little cost” and attended the Cologne and Milan shows to sign up European customers.

MD Nigel Worthington said: “There are always more dealers to get. We can always do a little bit in Europe. We are trying to turn the tables. We have done deals with certain suppliers so we are now allowed to sell certain products in European countries. I think there is some growth there.

“The biggest thing is to ensure we carry on doing what we do best because there are a lot of Europeans over here. They are all competitors trying to sell into the UK.”

The push into Europe comes on the back of a successful 2016. “We managed to grow again last year, significantly. We have just got to keep pushing hard and do the same this year.”

Highlights include Pipercross, the comprehensive ProClean range, Datatag and NG brake discs, which had done “exceptionally well”. “They are OEM on a lot of motorcycles and are made in Spain, not China.”

Direct Distribution prides itself on supplying tyres and hard parts, delivered the next day. It used Expo to launch its road-brand catalogue to complement its off-road brochure.
