EUROPEAN CAR LAUNCH FOR YAMAHA

Yamaha is planning a significant move from two wheels to four, with the roll-out of a production version of the Motiv concept microcar it originally unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013.

Starting with construction of an assembly plant for these two-seater vehicles at a currently unspecified location in Europe, the company is targeting a European market entry in 2019, potentially followed by sales in Japan and other Asian countries. The cars will be available in both one-litre petrol, hybrid and battery-powered electric options.

This will be the first complete car made by Yamaha since the late 1960s, when it manufactured the 2000GT for Toyota. It has since maintained a long-term automotive engine production relationship with Toyota.
