FORMER RIEJU PRESIDENT PASSES AWAY

Jordi Riera Baró, veteran supremo of Figueres-based Spanish moped and off-road motorcycle manufactuer Rieju, has died at the age of 84.

Riera joined the business, which was founded by his father Luis Riera Carré, in 1968 and subsequently succeeded Riera senior as Rieju’s president. He was primarily responsible for expanding it into a major exporter. Under his guidance, Rieju became a European leader in the geared moped sector and went on to establish distribution in more than 35 countries worldwide.

Commenting on his death, current Rieju president Jordi Riera Tarrés said: “My father has shown great attachment and love for the company until his last days, coming almost weekly to our office.”

A condolence statement from the Rieju workforce added: “For all of us it has been a privilege to work alongside him. We will never forget the inheritance he leaves us. With great respect and admiration, we will always have him in our hearts.”
