HARLEY BOSS HONOURED

US magazine Chief Executive has presented Harley-Davidson supremo Matt Levatich with its prestigious Leadership in Manufacturing award.

Levatich, an engineer who joined Harley in 1994, has held a variety of increasingly senior posts — including managing director of MV Agusta during the Italian marque’s fairly brief period of American ownership — before elevation to the top job in May 2015.

Chief Executive hailed him for advancing the company’s commitment to excellence in lean manufacturing throughout his career, with goals based on standardisation, continuous improvement, quality and just-in-time inventory management.

Marshall Cooper, head of Chief Executive Group, presented the award to Levatich at the magazine’s fourth annual Smart Manufacturing Conference, held in Milwaukee and attended by more than 100 CEOs. Commenting on the presentation, Cooper said: “In brand rankings, Harley-Davidson is a perennial top-10 winner. It represents freedom, rugged individualism, excitement and a sense of rebellion. Levatich has had a lot to do with that success.”
