KTM AND BAJAJ MAKE SPARKS TOGETHER

In a further extension of its manufacturing relationship with India’s Bajaj Auto, KTM Industries has agreed a new electric powered two-wheeler alliance.

The two companies have decided to develop a common 48-volt platform in the 3-10kW power range for planned serial production in India. This will support different product variants — scooters and mopeds — under the brands of both partners. Production is targeted to start at Bajaj’s Pune plant by 2022.

In a statement, KTM Industries majority shareholder Pierer Group said this step is a logical addition to ongoing developmental activities with German-based PEXCO (Puello E-mobility Crossover Company) in the Husqvarna e-bike sector. And the necessary development budget is already covered in its medium-term finance plans.

It was also revealed that discussions regarding the possibility of transferring Bajaj’s 48% stake in the KTM motorcycle subsidiary to KTM Industries, which have been taking place since the end of March 2019, are not being further pursued for the time being. The statement added: “The successful Pierer Group cooperation with Bajaj, which has existed since 2007, will thus continue unchanged at the level of KTM.”
