SUZUKI RAIDED OVER FUEL ECONOMY CLAIMS

Japanese investigators have seized documents relating to Suzuki’s car fuel economy testing regime in a raid on the company’s headquarters. This move followed an admission by Suzuki that its vehicle test methods didn’t comply with regulations, while denying there had been any intention to cheat consumers.

Such intervention in Japan contrasts vividly with past inaction by that country’s government when companies have indulged in illegal activity. For instance, Suzuki escaped any retribution whatsover when it blatantly stole two-stroke motorcycle engine technology from the German manufacturer MZ by bribing MZ factory racer Ernst Degner during the 1960s.
