yamaha unveils two-seater sports car concept

Yamaha, a name traditionally associated with motorbikes, engines and musical instruments, has unveiled a two-seater sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The mid-engined Yamaha Sports Ride Concept was apparently designed to feel like a motorcycle on the road. Weighing just 750kg, it’s clearly inspired by Yamaha’s motorcycles – though there are no details on the engine it uses.

The Sports Ride Concept uses a production process called iStream, which was developer by designer Gordon Murray (the man behind the McLaren F1, as well as the new TVR sports car project). This process allows lightweight, high-rigidity cars to be produced more efficiently.

The concept signals a possible production model for the brand, although officially it’s just a demonstration of new technology.
