2015 outdoes 2014 on diversity of new models

Commenting on the motorbike, scooter and moped sector, My Car Check’s Rob Hobson said: “With the end of the year upon us, it is a good time to look both backwards and forwards. If 2014 was a bumper year in terms of the sheer number and diversity of new model launches, then 2015 appears to have outdone it. With thousands flocking to Motorcycle Live at the NEC this month, there are new models being unveiled across the whole spectrum.

“Yamaha is looking to take the MT strategy further with the stunning R1-based MT10, while the XSR700 attempts to open up new sales avenues. To prove that sports bikes aren’t dead, Suzuki has unveiled the hotly anticipated new GSXR1000. Interestingly, because demand is still to be proved, there are more bikes arriving which fall into the middleweight sector – the BMW G310R, Yamaha MT03 and even Ducati with the smaller capacity Scrambler Sixty2.

“In the used market, the story is quite straightforward: If you can source clean, average mileage, decent condition stock, with proper history behind it, it will be good news. There appears to be a fair amount of used stock available.”

On used stock Hobson commented: “In a fairly niche but growing sector of the used market, the Triumph Scrambler stands out as a great option. With Ducati’s Scrambler range only arriving last year, and the Scrambler version of the BMW R nineT not launching until 2016, the Triumph Scrambler is already an established used performer. Buyers have a decent amount of choice and a well-accessorised one with aftermarket pipes represents fantastic value. As always, check to make sure the one you’re looking at is what it claims to be, especially when buying privately.”
