bikesafe invites trade to promote PTWs for free

The annual National BikeSafe Show is taking place at Rockingham on Saturday 19 August and the organisers have invited members of the trade to exhibit for free.

Last year’s show attracted more than 4000 visitors and a good number of manufacturers supported the event with stands and bikes to try. This year the show incorporates the “Open Roads” event that highlights other vulnerable road users and there will be a try-out area for electric bicycles.

“The National BikeSafe show brings together the very best of the national BikeSafe show and track experience and the Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service Open Roads event,” an organiser explained.

“We want to raise awareness of improving motorcycle skills, while delivering a track experience and showcasing the very best of what the motorcycle industry has to offer.”

Show highlights include police-observed rides, a California Superbike School track experience, demonstrations by the emergency services, manufacturer demo rides, motogymkhana, and various taster sessions.

“The aim is to provide a fun day out for families, non-drivers and drivers, young and old, but the motivation for the day was also to help cut the number of people being killed or injured on Northamptonshire’s roads.”

Northamptonshire [county council] Highways is once again supporting the event as part of its Motorcycle Northants initiative and the Motor Cycle Industry Association is supporting the show as part of its commitment to Motorcycle Northants. Motorcycle Northants aims “to achieve a modal shift towards motorcycles in the county and wants to do this safely and so is putting into practice many of the actions identified in the Motorcycle Safety and Transport Policy Framework drawn up by the MCIA/National Police Chiefs Council/Highways England.

In a message to members, Jenny Luckman of the MCIA wrote: “It is important we get behind this event as an industry and I hope you can help with this. If you are able to support the event, or want to find out more, can I ask you to contact Ian Marriott from Avon & Somerset Police who has been involved with the event for a number of years.” ([email protected])
