Martin Leigh of Max Torque Cans (formerly MTC) has bought the Carbon Can Company name and is to produce exhausts under both brands. Interestingly, it was the CCC that inspired the founding of MTC in 2001.
Leigh told BDN that both brands would be manufactured in the same Burscough, Ormskirk workshop and that he hoped his current distributors would also take on the new brand.
Max Torque Cans already makes about 25-30 exhausts a week and supplies distributors such as Bike It with link pipes. It also supplies another major international retailer with its own brand.
The roots of Max Torque Cans go back to 1994-95 and, bizarrely, the business was created after Leigh was disappointed with the quality of a Carbon Can Company exhaust he had bought. He recalls: “It had alloy end caps, a carbon body and was a bit rough around the edges to be honest, and there and then I said I could make something better for £160.”
The idea to buy the Carbon Can Company name came about two months ago. “I was returning from Motad exhausts just before it went into receivership,” said Leigh, “and began to wonder what had happened to CCC, so I made some inquiries and found it had ceased trading. I quickly snapped up the website domain name and applied for the company name.”
He concluded: “Max Torque Cans already supplies a few distributors and they will take Carbon Can Company exhausts as well, I hope. A lot of people are still loyal to the Carbon Can brand which had a good few years of excellent business trading before it was sold.”
