cfmoto makes history with first win for chinese bike

WK Bikes CFMOTO factory race team made history at Snetterton last weekend when its WK650 became the first Chinese supertwin to win a race in the Thundersport GB club, beating all Japanese and European machines.

The team was at the event to launch its new TT-specific WK650 bike with Gary Johnson riding in the Thundersport Supertwin class.

After a couple of minor changes the bike didn’t go out in practice, which meant Gary started from the back of the grid in race 1. Gary made his way through the field to bring the bike home in third and commented: “It handles well and is a great bike to ride. That’s not bad for its first outing!”

The WK team made a few changes and worked through the night to adapt the bike; changing the gearing, among other things, to tailor it to the short circuit of Snetterton. Two-time TT winner Gary Johnson went out on Monday for another hard-fought race where he finished on top of the podium. Team manager Freddie Hinkley said: “The bike ran well but we still have more to do before the TT.”

In the final race, Johnson rode the WK650 hard and after a battle at the front finished in second.

Team boss Mike Hinkley said: “We are very pleased with this weekend’s results. It shows the massive potential of the CFMOTO machines. There’s a lot more we still have to do to get this bike TT ready but it’s a great machine, which has proved it’s capable of winning against experienced short-circuit-tailored bikes.”
