Empire might at Miller Museum

The Empire boys were out in force for the official opening of a new glazed reception area extension at the Sammy Miller Museum at Bashley, Hampshire, on Sunday, 29 March.

Host Sammy Miller MBE welcomed his guests led by Empire-honoured John Surtees MBE, Murray Walker OBE, and Lord Montagu of Beaulieu.

The new two storey reception area at Miller’s museum brings the number of bike galleries up to 11. The extra space has allowed the 350 bike exhibits to be given more breathing space. This was the fourth extension since the museum was first opened in 1996.

Among the estimated crowd of 350 people creating a buzz at the ceremony were former bike manufacturers and racing champions Colin Seeley and brothers Derek and Don Rickman.

Former dealer Miller continues to fire up bikes at the museum, parade museum bikes at international events, and restore machines on site, thus maintaining the museum’s “living museum” image.
