EXPO: Bell rings the changes for Race FX

Race FX, the Lancashire-based off-road distributorship created by MX racer Paul Irwin in 2003, is now servicing the road-bike market as well as off-road with Bell helmets. To cope with the new helmet range and the opportunity it creates, Irwin now has road and off-road-dedicated reps to service his growing dealer network and is currently moving into a new warehouse in the centre of Blackburn.

The business now employs 22 staff and claims an annual turnover of £8million.

“It is an honour to be representing Bell in the UK. Almost every dealer we talk to tells us that an American Bell was their first helmet of choice and now, after 20 years of being produced in Italy, it is back in the US in Scotts Valley, California. Bell offers American quality and style to both road and off-road dealers and a price structure from just £79 to £499 retail.”

Bell sales director Matt Schumann, who was on the Race FX stand at Expo, says: “Along with the history and thought and care we put into the product we are employing the latest technology. In the new Flex-Tech Carbon 9 we use three materials internally for maximum protection.”

Irwin said Race FX had about 800 accounts would like to sell Bell through stockists, that is dealers who take a mix of 12. “It is a financial commitment but not a massive one when you consider the pull of the brand and the sales potential,” said Irwin, adding: “Expo has been excellent, far exceeding my expectations. We were busy every day.”
