HARLEY BRANDING PRESIDENT SACKED

Harley-Davidson president of global brand development Neil Grimmer, who had been appointed to this newly-created role only seven months ago, has abruptly left the company following an investigation into his conduct.

Prior to joining Harley, Grimmer was chief executive of Habit, a “personalised nutrition life science” business he had founded. Before that, he was best-known as co-founder of the Plum Organics baby food brand, which he subsequently sold to Campbell Soup for £72m in 2013. At Harley, Grimmer reported directly to CEO Matt Levatich and his duties ranged from the branding aspects of product planning, marketing and retail to communications.

In an e-mailed statement, a Harley spokesperson said: “His departure comes after an internal inquiry, along with a third-party investigation, into concerns that his judgment and conduct as a senior leader did not align with our culture and the values we expect our employees to demonstrate. We determined that Mr Grimmer leaving Harley-Davidson was the appropriate course of action. Harley-Davidson takes all matters related to workplace conduct very seriously. Employees, regardless of level, are expected to follow our code of business conduct and valued behaviours.”

A separate source familiar with what had occurred indicated that Harley had received a number of complaints about Grimmer. And his dismissal reflected multiple actions by him, not just a single event. But, unfortunately, none of the sordid details was revealed.

An internal memo from CEO Levatich to Harley staff explaining the decision, leaked to the Milwaukee Business Journal, said that he [Levatich] would be assuming Grimmer’s responsibilities for global brand development in the interim.
