H&H centres bike sales at Donington

In a revised strategy, said to be needed to cope with growing auction inventory, H&H has switched all bikes sales to Donington Park Circuit in Leicestershire.

H&H’s premier venue, at RAF Duxford, Cambridgeshire, will be used for classic cars only from now on.

In April at Duxford H&H presented a house record number of bikes (133). Many were parked outdoors because of pressure of space in the hall.

“There’s no longer enough room for both cars and bikes to do them justice at Duxford,” said head of motorcycle department George Beale, whose team has secured three headline motorcycles for the next combined classic car and bike sale at Donington’s Exhibition Hall on Wednesday 16 November.

Lead bike is a 1938 Vincent Series A Rapide V-twin, estimate £200,000-£220,000. The two other star attractions are Brough Superiors, both with six-figure estimates.

At April Duxford H&H sold 114 motorcycles. At the 12 October Duxford sale 36 bikes were hammered away in a sale which grossed £4.9m as H&H continues to up its classic car auction game. “There was standing room only for 800 bidders,” reported H&H’s publicity agent Julian Roup.

As our picture shows, H&H tried to achieve the right crowd and no crowding indoors at Duxford in April, but it meant that a long row of bikes and many cars were presented outdoors. From now on all H&H bikes go to Donington.
