Isle of Wight dealer puts business up for sale

Isle of Wight Motorcycles, a Suzuki/Piaggio Group dealer based in Newport, is up for sale.

Owner Mike Attrill has been treating the business as “a bit of a hobby” since experiencing health issues and undergoing an operation three years ago, but despite that the turnover last year was £600,000 and exceeded £1million at its peak.

“You are not talking a little back-street garage,” said Attrill, who pointed out that the island provided a captive market and had more bikes per head of population than almost any other part of the UK.

“I am probably doing 800 to 900 MOTs a year, which is way above the national average. The Isle of Wight is a lovely place to work and live and it is a good little business.”

Attrill, 57, said the time had come to retire – “in some ways I don’t want to give it up but if I don’t do it now I will be here until I’m 75” – and would ideally like to sell the business as a going concern.
