KTM goes for growth and seeks ‘light-weight’ dealers

KTM has created a commercial business department within its Silverstone Business Park-based offices. As well as working more closely with dealers, the department will contribute to the manufacturer’s “continued growth with an ever-expanding and diverse street range and cement its position as the leader in off-road motorcycles … This will allow us more opportunities to get the brand into the heart of big cities and towns, especially London”.

Mike Parker, KTM’s former area sales manager (north) since 2004, assumes the new role as commercial business development manager and is supported by Clare Betts, who moves across from the sales administration team to become dealer support coordinator.

Parker said: “There’s a significant increase in interest for KTM and its products in the UK. The ‘Street Light’ lightweight option has meant we can have new outlets selling the lower-capacity models closer to existing dealers without affecting their business, as there’s not much product overlap.

“There’s also less investment required as set-up costs are also much smaller for the dealer, in terms of shop systems, training, signage and stock commitment. This will allow us more opportunities to get the brand into the heart of big cities and towns, especially London.”

The department will also work across the Husqvarna brand in terms of traditional dealer development.
