NOTTS DEALER KILLED AT MACAU GP

Dan Hegarty, proprietor of RTR Motorcycles at Bingham near Nottingham, sadly lost his life following a seventh-lap crash during the Macau Grand Prix. The race was red-flagged after his accident.

A hugely-experienced racer, Hegarty had variously been a front runner in the Virgin Yamaha R6 Cup and National Superstock 1000 Championship. He made his road-racing debut in 2011 at the Isle of Man TT and achieved some impressive results, culminating in TT Privateer Cup victory in 2016.

In 2017 he had been riding for the Northern Irish Top Gun Racing Honda squad on the roads. Hegarty’s death at Macau has become a double tragedy for Top Gun. His team-mate Gavin Lupton was killed earlier this year at the Ulster Grand Prix.

Our sincere condolences, along with those of his many friends in the trade, go to Dan Hegarty’s family.
