One hundred bikers say farewell to daley

More than 100 bikers turned out on Wednesday to make Daley Mathison’s final journey a moving spectacle. The 27-year-old Stockton superbike rider died following a crash at the Isle of Man TT earlier this month.

Mourners were requested to wear “daisies for Daley”, a reference to his three-year-old daughter, Daisy.

Those who attended sported stickers of Daley on their bikes and helmets, with Daisy’s name, while a truck from Daley’s race sponsor Eddie Stobart bearing the name ‘Daisy Blu’ parked outside a packed St Bede’s Chapel at Teesside Crematorium.

Bikers revved their engines as the funeral cortege arrived, after following in convoy from Stockton across to Middlesbrough and down Acklam Road into the crematorium.

For the first time, mourners were allowed into the nearby St Hilda’s chapel to watch the service on screens.
