‘Our Yorkshire Farm’

In the December 2019 issue, British Dealer News featured on the Reaction page: “A heart-warming story of a youngster taking to two wheels.” It’s suggested round 1.5 million families watch Channel 5’s ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’ and the Owen family on Tuesday nights – probably more with the many repeats shown in recent months. Recent episodes featured farm and trials bikes and the efforts of eldest son 16-year-old Reuben Owen.

It has become great free publicity for our industry. Local dealer Graham Charlton in Stockton on Tees picked up on his interest and delivered to him free of charge an old 100 cc Champ bike that had been in storage. Reuben had it fired up in two hours and was soon riding round the farm at Ravenseat in Keld.

The saving fund has continued with his farm work and sales of old tractor parts and his interest drawn to the Scorpa range. Upshot was he was invited by Nigel Birkett of Birkett Motorsport to a Scorpa test day at Keswick in mid-June and was able to buy an ex-factory demo 300cc. It is thought that future filming will feature him riding round the old quarry on the family farm.
