road race parts man 'too busy to get married'

Expo was a test of leg power for 81-year-old Ken Inwood (Hersham Racing Services) who continues to provide a road race parts supply including tyres and fitment at classic and vintage road races. A road racer from 1959 to 1989, he started providing a paddock service in 1965, adding tyre fitment in 1966. More than half a century later he’s still doing it.

“I was never interested in anything but motorcycle racing, so I never settled down to get married and have children,” he said, later adding that he was combining his Expo visit with looking up an old girlfriend. Tracks he will attend this year include Aintree as well as those on the Vintage MCC and Classic Racing MC calendars.

Countless road racers are indebted to the former chartered accountant who has got many of them out of a tight spot on race day. Based at Hersham, Surrey, Inwood has an endless fund of road race anecdotes and  memories. His motto is Per Ardua Ad Mona (Through adversity to the Isle of Man).
