RST FUTURE IS INTEGRATED AIRBAGS

Already claiming the accolade of first British bike apparel brand to have its entire range tested and CE certified to PREN17092, RST’s next step has been to introduce a range of garments offering enhanced rider protection through airbag technology.

Working with In&motion, a French expert in engineering wearable airbag systems, RST developed and launched a V4.1 airbag-equipped racesuit prototype last year.

“Just as armour is integrated into garments, we believe the best way to improve rider safety is to fully integrate In&motion’s airbag technology too,” explains Moto-Direct marketing manager Reena Mistry. “The result is an RST integrated airbag range. Knowledge gained through countless hours of product development, and testing by the best professional riders, has enabled us to keep safety at the heart of our product innovation.”

The V4.1 suit first appeared, appropriately, at a presentation on the Isle of Man during TT 2019. In a sense, it had been born there, thanks to many miles of initial extreme developmental testing at high speeds by TT stars such as Ian Hutchinson and Conor Cummins, under the demanding and frequently bumpy conditions of the TT Mountain Course.

An international team of short-circuit racers, including Kenny Foray in MotoGP’s MotoE, World Superbikes star Alex Lowes and RST’s founder and British Super Twins champion Jonny Towers, then verified the V4.1 suit’s capabilities on racetracks around the world — before it was finally signed off to be made available in the 2020 RST collection.

“Alongside development of the V4.1, everything we learned about integrating In&motion’s technology quickly filtered down into our jacket development programme,” adds Mistry. “We selected RST’s premium jacket in each key category and now the range consists of four garments. In addition to the Race Dept V4.1 airbag leather one-piece suit, we now have a Pro Series Adventure-X airbag textile jacket, a GT airbag leather jacket and a GT airbag textile jacket.”

Suggested retail prices run from £899.99 for the racesuit, £499.99 for both the Adventure-X and GT leather, and £399,99 for the GT textile.
