spares supplier sells up and heads to oz

Lewis Ashforth, the founder of Italjet UK Spares, is selling up to head off to Australia.

Ashforth created the business, based in Clowne, Chesterfield, 10 years ago as a 17 year old. Now he has decided to see the world and plans to fly to Oz in the summer once he has wound up the business. He is advertising more than 200,000 Italjet spares – the largest stock in the world and covering three productions from 1990–2008 – but is not ruling out selling the company as a going concern if someone contacts him quickly.

“There are plenty of Italjets out there – the bikes have got a good following – and people are trying to keep them on the road. They are becoming collectors’ items now, especially the Dragsters. We ship all over the world – to Japan, Australia and all of Europe and America.”

Italjet has a retail outlet in Clowne, which is now closing. The operation is to be centred temporarily at the company’s warehouse in Worksop to ease the sales process.

“Over the years we have met and dealt with thousands of good customers and friends and will be sad to see things come to an end. We wish to thank all of our customers and suppliers for their business over the years and wish you the very best in the future.”

Ashforth says he has not decided whether he will try to settle Down Under or whether he might return to the motorcycle trade in the UK.
