STUNT RIDER TO JUMP BOURNEMOUTH PIER AT FESTIVAL

A stunt rider will attempt a world-first jump over Bournemouth Pier at the town’s inaugural Wheels Festival later this month.

The festival is also to feature an exhibition ride of Carlos Checa’s Ducati Desmosedici MotoGP bike from 2005.

The Ducati will be among a number of bikes participating in “a celebration of all things wheel-powered”, including a wide-ranging display of Nortons.

Harley-Davidson’s New Forest Chapter will be riding to the festival, with 25 to 50 bikes expected, and local club the Christchurch Cruisers will be displaying an “eclectic mix of machines from throughout the history of motoring”.

Organisers are also expecting numerous classic scooter clubs with up to 30 Vespas, Lambrettas and other collectable scooters. There will also be individual bikes including TT racers, military machines and classic British marques on show.

The event is billed as the UK’s biggest free family wheels-themed festival and takes place from 24 to 26 May.

In the Action Sports Arena be wowed by daring Freestyle Motocross (FMX) stunts on the beach from 12pm-7pm (on Monday 12pm-6pm), with 45-minute sessions every other hour. The daredevil pier-jumping attempt takes place on Saturday, repeated on Sunday, between 7pm-8pm.
