20 JUNE — WEEKLY MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY SHARE PRICE GUIDE

A snapshot of global bike and ATV industry share performance at the trading closure on Friday 20 June 2014.

Harley and Polaris led the charge back upwards on behalf of motorcycling as US stocks bounced back throughout the week. This was in response to the Federal Reserve retaining its dovish steady-as-you-go policy on interest rates despite reported inflationary pressures in the American economy. The S&P 500 index finished 1.3 per cent up on yet another record high.

In Europe, the Eurofirst 300 delivered a tenth consecutive weekly gain and has risen by six per cent so far this year. Automotive shares generally reflected this, with both BMW and VW recovering, but Piaggio (which isn’t in the Eurofirst big league) slid fractionally.

Good news in the US cheered up Far Eastern investors too, boosting Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index by 1.7 per cent, its fifth successive weekly improvement. Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki share prices climbed accordingly but Kawasaki remained exactly static.

Golden stock of the week was India’s TVS Motor, basking in both its own latest domestic good fortune in terms of sales and annoucements relating to imminent fulfilment of a high-profile global bike production deal with BMW Motorrad. Yearly return at TVS has now reached more than 350 per cent — an extremely canny investment last summer for some…
