BMW Motorrad sold more motorcycles in 2012 than ever before in its entire history spanning almost 90 years.
For the full 12 months of last year, BMW bike sales worldwide rose by two per cent to 106,358 units. The company also ended 2012 on another high, with December sales up by 43.4 per cent to 6069 units.
BMW subsidiary Husqvarna also did well, with annual sales growing by 15.8 per cent to 10.751 units. However, the formerly Swedish but now Italian-made brand suffered a 4.7 per cent decline in December to 1267 units.
BMW board of management member Harald Krueger commented: “The sales record shows that our products and services are fit for the future in the face of increasingly challenging market conditions, owing to the strength of the brand, fascinating technology and a globally balanced distribution strategy.”
