FAST FIRST-QUARTER START FOR BMW

BMW Motorrad’s first-quarter financial results feature record growth in sales volume, revenue and proft, largely thanks to a mild European winter kickstarting the season early.

Revenue for the period rose by 8.3 per cent to £387m. Operating profit from bikes stacked on 25.5 per cent to £52.5m and pre-tax profit was up by 26 per cent to £51.7m. These latter pair of figures represent the highest quarterly profitability ever achieved by BMW Motorrad.

A new retail sales volume record was also set for the first three months of 2014, with a 16.1 per cent increase to 28,719 units, thanks to stocks of new R nineT, S1000R, R1200RT and K1600 GTL models all reaching dealers in time for the start of the season in March.
