HONDA AIRBAG RECALL HITS BIKES TOO

A vastly expensive world-wide recall of about 21 million Honda cars to replace potentially dangerous Takata airbags has knocked on to the brand’s motorcycles as well.

American Honda Motor has just announced a recall of GL1800 Gold Wings comprising 2701 units from its 2006-2010 model years to cope with exactly the same defect, in conjunction with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to a statement issued by Honda, the airbag inflators fitted to these bikes may explode and riddle the rider with metal fragments, causing serious injury or death. Presumably this recall will extend to airbag-equipped Gold Wings in other markets, including the UK.
