PIERER PLUGS INTO VARTA

KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas parent Pierer Mobility has established a strategic cooperation agreement with Teutonic battery manufacturing giant Varta, focusing on the development of battery systems for the electric powered two-wheeler sector.

This deal was reached between KTM supremo Stefan Pierer and fellow Austrian Michael Tojner, chief executive of the Montana Tech Components group of companies which owns a majority stake in Varta — already the largest European producer of lithium-ion cells.

This partnership will benefit from Varta’s rapidly-expanding R&D facility at Graz in Austria. Its objective, according to Pierer and Tojner, is to develop and industrialise a highly-efficient lightweight battery platform for two-wheeled EVs in the field of 48-volt technology, with peak power outputs of up to 20kW.
