Royal Enfield CEO Vinod Dasari has dropped a broad hint that the Indian factory is starting to get serious about electric.
Speaking to Economic Times Auto India, Dasari said: “I don’t think we’ll spend any more on any large [facility]. Most of our capital expenditure will go into capability building, new products, electric and other stuff. And it will also go into many small assembly plants around the world.”
Last year it revealed that a small team of designers was working on a prototype electric machine at its UK technology base.
Although India is going through tough times economically at the moment, Royal Enfield’s registrations have risen from 50,000 a year to more than 50,000 each month.
