Sammy Miller was guest of honour at the Trial Legends meeting in Barcelona between 15-17 November.
Miller was invited by Snr Oriol Puig Bultó to a ‘lunch-fiesta’ for those riders who started riding trials before 1986.
The meeting was held in a hotel outside the city of Barcelona and before lunch the group visited a small exhibition of the most representative trial motorcycles from 1965 – among which was a Bultaco Sherpa T ‘Sammy Miller’.
Sammy was honoured as the ‘true’ trial Legend, together with Jordi Tarrés (the first seven-times world champion) and Toni Bou (current and multi-world champion) which represents three generations of Trial Legends. Sammy was presented with a trophy as the first FIM European champion.
Dougie Lampkin, his mother Isobel, Alan (‘Sid’) Lampkin, John Lampkin, Mick Andrews, Steve Saunders and other British riders all attended the meeting.
* In 1964 the FIM created the first international Trial championship, the Challenge Henry Groutards, won by Don Smith on a Greeves. In 1968 there was the first European championship won by Sammy Miller on a Bultaco, and in 1975 the first World Championship won by Martin Lampkin on a Bultaco.
