Thailand honours Ducati CEO Domenicali

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali has been made an Honorary Investor Adviser (HIA) by the Thai government’s Board of Investment (BOI). The appointment follows Ducati’s decision to a build a factory in Thailand, 150km south of Bangkok in the industrial district of Rayong.

Work on the factory started in 2010 and production of the Ducati Monster began one year later. The plant, which covers 45,000sq.metres and employs 200 people, builds almost the entire Ducati range for delivery throughout Asia and will increase its production this year by 15%.

Of his honorary appointment, Domenicali said: “Ducati’s vision to build a factory here has been strategic to our plans for global growth and the BOI’s support has been invaluable. I am very proud to receive the position of Honorary Investment Advisor here at the Thai BOI and equally proud of the quality and efficiency achieved in our Ducati Motor Thailand facility.”

In 2016 the Italian manufacturer delivered 55,451 motorcycles worldwide, representing an increase of 1.2% over the previous year and the seventh consecutive year of positive sales growth. Asia (excluding Japan and Australia) accounted for approximately 11% of Ducati’s global sales.

After being awarded his position as Honorary Investment Adviser and meeting the Thai Prime Minister, Domenicali flew on to Indonesia to visit the world’s largest Ducati store, where he was met by Ducati’s official importer to Indonesia, PT Garansindo Euro Sports.

“Our importer in Indonesia has done a superb job of interpreting Ducati brand values”, said Domenicali. “The Jakarta showroom presents our products as true works of art in a well thought-out, decidedly premium setting. Plenty of space, a multi-floor display, attention to detail, the exhibition of vintage bikes, an entire floor dedicated to the Scrambler, welcome areas and a top-notch Service area make this store one of the best in the world”.

At 3000sq.metres, the flagship is Ducati’s largest store in the world.
