WORLDWIDE TT AUDIENCE GROWS

Televised race coverage from the 2016 Isle of Man TT reached a global audience of almost 30 million viewers, according to an independent audit carried out by broadcast measurement specialist Kantar Media. This had been commissioned by the Manx government’s Department of Economic Development.

The event’s TV audience rose by 2.4% against figures for 2015, equivalent to more than 700,000 extra viewers. Racing was screened in 83 countries, with European broadcasters providing 51% of the total audience.

Digitial media also grew, with more than eight million views of clips on the official Isle of Man TT YouTube channel. The most popular of these was on-board footage of Michael Dunlop’s 133.962mph outright record lap, which was viewed 1.6 million times.

The official TT Facebook page recruited an additional 200,000 followers, 23% up on the previous year. Live TT race commentary by Manx Radio, streamed globally through the station’s website audio, attracted more than 350,000 unique online connections.
