BSB showdown gets under way at Donington

Superbikes will take over Donington Park, with dramatic action coming from the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship on 16-18 September.

The Donington round comes at a crucial point of the season, and the circuit has the honour of hosting the first round of the ‘Showdown’, where the top six riders in the series get elevated to Title Fighter Status. After this event, only those six riders can win the coveted title, but with their points closed right up, the championship becomes a real battle.

So far the men to beat in 2016 have been series legend Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Donington-local Leon Haslam. Byrne has seven wins to his name and Haslam four, but just 21 points (less than a race win) now separate the pair, with races at Oulton Park still to come before the BSB ‘circus’ arrives at Donington. Byrne and Haslam have already secured their places in the Showdown, as has Australian Jason O’Halloran. Then it’s Michael Laverty, Dan Linfoot and James Ellison filling the top-six, but Richard Cooper, Luke Mossey and Peter Hickman are well within striking distance and will be looking to get into the top-six.

Outside the top-six there is still much to play for amongst a world class international field, with further fantastic supporting races from the packed grids of British Supersport, Superstock, Motostar, World Sidecars and more.

Tickets for both events are available to purchase in advance from, while children 13 and under go free.
