changes to category 'A' test vehicles

From 31 December 2018, the requirements for category A test vehicles will change.

Test vehicles will need to have:

  • a minimum engine power requirement of 50kW
  • a minimum kerb weight of 180kg

You can check the motorcycle minimum test vehicle list on GOV.UK.

Vehicles on the list affected by the changes are identified on the list as A*, and won’t be accepted from 1 January, 2019.

Motorcycles identified as A on the list still meet the new requirements and will continue to be acceptable for test after 1 January 2019.

The changes will only affect full Category A. Categories AM, A1 and A2 are unchanged.

The Suzuki Burgman 650 is one of the vehicles that will no longer be acceptable for the purposes of the A test
