good time to buy a future classic

Mycarcheck is recommending the Ducati 1098 as a good used buy.

Mark Field said: “Summer’s finally here so what better time to roll out one of the most eagerly anticipated bikes of recent times, the Ducati 1098. Manufactured from 2007 to 2009, the successor to the 999 has more in common styling-wise with the 998. The single-sided swingarm and non-integrated exhaust pipes bring the classic Ducati look bang up to date. Producing 160bhp and 92ft-lb of torque at 8000rpm, the 1098 isn’t shy, isn’t for the faint-hearted and could easily be a future classic. Twenty per cent of those we checked last year were previously written-off and you can expect to pay up to £15,000 for a pristine example.”

As for market trends, Field said: “A shortage of quality stock is still strangling the used motorbike market, largely due to the decline in new sales and the resulting lack of part exchanges. Demand for good used bikes remains strong though, and there are some positive signs: better weather, plenty of new Euro 4 bikes in dealerships and the Ride To Work Week initiative (running this week, from 19 to 25 June) should all help to boost sales.”

With information from the police, DVLA, insurers and finance houses, My Car Check holds comprehensive data on every vehicle on UK roads – things that buyers should be aware of before making an offer.
