Honda puts its racers through their paces

Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam were among participants in a second Honda rider fitness assessment session at the English Institute of Sport. The events are held as part of Honda’s “on-going commitment to nurturing the talent of its athletes in the Motocross World Championship and in the World Superbike paddock”.

The riders were given training routines to complement their activities and help ensure they’re at their peak performance and best placed to continue improving through incremental gains.

On the first day, riders from the Honda 150 European Championship and the European Junior Cup were present, benefiting not only from the fitness advice and training tips they were provided, but also from the mentorship of Honda’s professional riders from on- and off-road disciplines.

Aside from strength and conditioning training and general fitness, diet and nutrition also formed a significant part of the training as crucial factors of human performance.

Alongside the leading Honda 150 European Championship and European Junior Cup riders were MXGP contenders Joel Roelants of J-Race Racing Team, Klemen Gercar, Maxime Desprey and Kalle Olsson of Team JTech Racing, and Jeremy Delince of 24MX Honda Racing.

The road racing contingent included Rea and Haslam from the Pata Honda World Superbike team, Michael van der Mark and Lorenzo Zanetti from the Pata Honda World Supersport team, and Jake Lewis, Racedays Honda Superstock 600 rider and winner of last year’s European Junior Cup.
