JLR CLOSER TO BUYING SILVERSTONE

The likelihood of Silverstone race circuit and its associated commercial campus falling into the hands of Jaguar Land Rover has increased after members of the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) — which owns the Northamptonshire track — voted in favour of its board continuing negotiations to finalise a deal with the car giant.

JLR’s headline proposals for the site include a museum and visitor centre, plus a five-star hotel. But it is also considering relocation of up to 1700 staff to Silverstone. The UK subsidiaries of motorcycle manufacturers Ducati and KTM are already residents there.

Following the membership vote, a BRDC statement said: “The potential deal, which will only be completed if the board can agree terms with JLR that it believes to be in the best interests of the BRDC, would align Silverstone with two premier British brands and put the BRDC on a stronger financial footing.”
