LOCK AND LOAD AT AMA PRO RACING

Well-known British expat motorcycle and automotive industry veteran Michael Lock is back in harness with a new high-profile job running bike sport in the US. Lock has been appointed as chief executive of AMA Pro Racing, effective from I November. This follows involvement as a business strategy consultant to this promoter throughout the 2015 race season.

“Adding Michael Lock to the executive team shows our commitment to elevating professional motorcycle racing in North America,” said AMA Pro Racing principal Jim France. “His expertise will be critical to the long-term success of the sport.”

Lock’s long career in the powered two-wheeler business began in 1984 when he joined Honda UK, performing a range of sales and marketing roles. He later moved across to Honda Europe, before jumping ship to Triumph in 1991. Initially handling export sales for the reborn British marque, Lock then became chief executive of a newly established Triumph Motorcycles USA subsidiary in 1994.

Returning to the UK in 1997, he then spent five years outside of bikes, before resurfacing as managing director of Ducati UK in 2002. Just 12 months later, he crossed the Atlantic again to become chief executive of Ducati North America, a position he held until 2010. After a brief sojourn handling marketing for now-defunct Norwegian electric vehicle manufacturer Think, Lock headed west yet again as chief operating officer of Automobili Lamborghini Americas from 2012 to 2014.

Commenting on his latest incarnation at AMA Pro Racing, Michael Lock said: “This is an exciting time for AMA Pro Racing. I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to contribute to its future direction.”
