preston docklands dealer celebrates first year

A Preston motorcycle dealership has joined forces with three Lancashire motorcycle groups to celebrate its first birthday.

Bowker Motorrad on the docklands was transformed into an oasis for motorcycling enthusiasts on 1/2 October.

North West Blood Bikes, the Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists and the BMW Owners Group were all out in force. Entertainment included live music, a barbecue, and a display of classic BMW motorcycles.

The weekend was also be one of the first chances for Lancashire riders to see the new BMW R nineT Scrambler.

Bowker Motorrad head of business John Nichol said: “The last year has flown by. We have a great location at the entrance to the docks. And we tried to use that to our advantage by hosting events and rideouts. We’ve been delighted with the response from customers old and new, not to mention the wider motorcycle community. This weekend celebration was a simple thank you for their support.”

Last year, in October, more than 800 North West bikers visited the Bowker Motorrad opening celebration. The event unveiled the 13,000sq.ft building including a ground-floor showroom for more than 40 bikes.

Last year’s opening weekend included a mayoral visit; an appearance by Lancashire Olympian and modern pentathlete Samantha Murray; and, North West Motorcycle Community Hero presentation.

The business, previously trading as Southport Superbikes, was acquired by Bowker in 2014. The dealership – Bowker motor group’s tenth – took the total footprint of Bowker motor group buildings on the docks to over six acres; including Bowker MINI and Bowker BMW.
