Ride to Work Week boost for industry

Ride to Work Day has been extended to Ride to Work Week this year. Ride to Work Day is on 16 June and activities carry on until 22 June.
The week is designed to boost interest in two-wheel commuting, with a whole series of events planned across the country. Dealers, cafes and workplaces will be hosting events and offering bike-related promotions, and the Ride to Work website ( will show what’s happening in your area.
Perhaps the main event is the MCIA organised City Challenge, held in some of the most congested cities in Britain outside London. Three commuters – one in a car, one on a motorcycle, one using public transport – will set off from the same point and travel to a workplace in the city centre. It’s a fair bet that the bike will get there first.
Meanwhile, more studies reveal other benefits of commuting by bike. The Office for National Statistics measured the well-being of commuters, based on their anxiety, happiness and satisfaction. For journeys of 15-30 minutes, Motorcyclists were happier than those travelling by bus, bicycle or car.
