ROYAL ENFIELD BUILDS ON MIDLANDS CONNECTION

Royal Enfield parent Eicher has appointed Rugby-based construction firm Stepnell to build its new British R&D centre at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground near Lutterworth in Leicestershire.

Stepnell has won a £3.5m contract, with support from the Regional Growth Fund. Work on the facility, which has been designed by Leicester-based Architects LE1, is set to start in March 2016 and should be completed in November.

Some 70 engineers and designers are expected to take up residence in this two-storey steel-framed edifice, which will house areas for the development and testing of new motorcycles, plus office and design space.

Commenting on the move, Royal Enfield’s UK head of product development Simon Warburton said: “We spoke to several contractors about the new technology centre but Stepnell stood out as clearly the best choice, due to their professionalism and their record.”
