Shipping still in crisis

The world lurches from crisis to crisis even though the pandemic seems to be receding. Rising inflation, constrictions on fuel, shocking increases in the cost of energy – it’s just one problem after another. Global shipping is a case in point. It’s in trouble as demand is surging and both ships and containers are still in the wrong places. The BBC reported at the end of September that there were some 73 container ships stuck outside of two of America’s biggest ports – Los Angeles and Long Beach, both in California. Collectively, they handle 40% of all cargo containers entering the US…
