STOCK SHORTAGES HIT MANCHESTER SHOW

The Manchester Bike Show, which was due to take place on 11-12 September, has been postponed again, after already being put back from March 2021 dates owing to the lockdown at that time.

On this latest occasion, reasons for postponement are two-fold, emanating from a number of dealers representing manufacturers who have now cancelled their attendance.

In the first instance, against a background of rising Covid cases, dealers have told the show’s organisers that they don’t want to put their employees at any greater risk than necessary. And equally, their mostly young employees are reluctant to put themselves into that situation anyway.

But the second issue is pertinent to widespread inventory shortages afflicting the trade. Participating dealers apparently reported that they can pre-sell any stock they can currently get their hands on, so there seems little point in going to all the effort of organising a stand with nothing to put on it.

A statement from the show organisers said: “We are well aware that we could have gone ahead, irrespective of the withdrawal of key exhibitors. But we are not prepared to sacrifice the reputation of the event for short-term financial gain.”

The Manchester Bike Show will now take place on 2-3 April 2022 at Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Longbridge Road, Stretford, Manchester, M17 1SN
